The Octagon Theatre raises over £4k for Yeovil District Hospital Children’s Ward

The Octagon Theatre has once again been busy fundraising for good causes over the winter months. This year’s chosen causes were Yeovil District Hospital Children’s Ward, which is fundraising to make their ward more suitable for its younger patients, and The Foyer Club, a registered charity* who fundraise to support the arts locally.

The theatre’s annual bucket collection that ran throughout 49 record-breaking pantomime performances, coupled with a local choir concert at St John’s Church in December, has raised a staggering £9,426.94.

The total amount raised was divided between Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) and The Foyer Club and so today The Octagon Theatre has presented Sarah Cherry with a cheque for £4,713.47 towards YDH’s fundraising to improve the Children’s Ward.

With the money raised throughout their fundraising, YDH hope to improve the Children’s Ward to relax and engage child visitors to the ward, in order to make the environment feel less clinical through artwork, light boxes, animations and projected images.

Since 2004 The Octagon Theatre’s Christmas charity bucket collection alone has raised over £60,000 for local charities and good causes. Adam Burgan, Arts & Entertainment Manager of The Octagon said, ‘We are delighted to be able to support such fantastic local causes through our annual Christmas bucket collection and festive concert. Our brilliant patrons have once again shown their generous support and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to these collections over the years. We hope that they will continue to go from strength to strength.’
