Longleat’s oldest resident, Nico the gorilla, received a bouquet of daffodils from keepers to signal spring is finally on its way. As well as being the oldest gorilla in Europe, Nico, who is believed to be at least 55, is also thought to be the second oldest male gorilla in the world. Full story: Read more
A rare pair of cheetah cubs have ventured outside for the first time at Longleat Safari Park. Thirteen-week-old cubs Poppy and Winston, who were named by the public, are the first to have been born at the Wiltshire wildlife attraction, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Longleat is launching a nationwide competition to find two wild amateur photographers of the year to feature in a new exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of their safari park. In April 1966 Longleat hit the headlines around the world when it became the first place outside of Africa to open a safari park. To mark this historic event, a major new photographic exhibition showcasing the Wiltshire attraction’s ‘animal heroes’ is set to open at Easter 2016. Full story: Read more
