Somerset’s Wildlife Trusts’s Taunton Wildlife Week is here!

Somerset Wildlife Trust is excited to invite you to Taunton Wildlife Week, part of its urban wildlife project, Routes to the River Tone. Come and enjoy a week of fantastic wildlife events around Taunton Town – which are all free! On Saturday 17th June, Taunton Wildlife Week kick starts with our attendance at Somerfest, and from there we have a whole host of events for all the family – from fishing and wild art to a River Safari and wildlife photography there will be loads to choose from:

Somerfest at Goodlands Gardens, Taunton

Saturday 17 June

Taunton Wildlife Week kick starts with our attendance at Somerfest, where we will be setting up a nature corner with Wilder Woods and Exmoor National Park. We will be making seed bombs and willow stars and creating works of art with Hapa Zome plus lots more.

Guided River Walk at Venture Way,  Priorswood.

Tuesday 20 June 10:00 – 11:00

Come along for an hour long wildlife walk with Somerset Wildlife Trust and Better Leisure, taking in a beautiful stretch of the River Tone and all the wonderful creatures that live there. 

Eco-orienteering at Netherclay at Community Woodland

Tuesday 20 June 15:00 – 18:00

Come along and have fun exploring Netherclay Community Woodland and the wildlife that lives there. Free family event. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times and please wear appropriate outdoor clothing. (This is a drop in session between 3pm and 6pm).

Introduction to Wildlife Photography at Somerset Wildlife Trust Head Office

Wednesday 21 June 10:00 – 12:30

Come along for an introductory session on wildlife photography with professional wildlife photographer Iain Green. During the session you will learn how to make the most of your equipment and have a chance to test your skills with an outdoor session around Longrun Meadow afterwards. Wildplay at Netherclay Community Woodland

Wednesday 21 June 17:30 – 19:00

Come along for a free wildplay session at Netherclay Community Woodland. We will be building shelters, creating clay art and having a fire with marshmallows and much more. This is a free family event. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times and please wear appropriate outdoor clothing. Longrun Meadow
Wildflower Identification at Longrun Meadow, Taunton

Thursday 22 June 10:00 – 11:00

Come along for a short walk around Longrun Meadow to identify wild flowers and share knowledge of what can be seen. Please bring ID books and wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear as the ground may be uneven and wet. We will meet at the Willow Cathedral in Longrun Meadow, Taunton.

Somerset Wildlife Trust joins Toddler Time at Taunton Library. Come and have a river adventure with the Big Book.

River Safari at COACH, French Weir Park, Taunton

Thursday 22 June 16:00 – 17:30

Join us for a wildlife tour of the Tone as seen from the water. We will be kayaking along the river looking for the signs and sounds of nature. Please not that due to the nature of this activity this event is only open for children that are 8 years old and over.

Litter Pick and Doggy Social at Oak Barn in Longrun Meadow

Friday 23 June 10:00 – 12:00

Come along to a litter pick with a difference. For this event we are inviting people to bring along their dogs for the session. We will be removing litter from the area and afterwards we will have tea, cake and doggy biscuits (for our four legged friends). It’s a chance for dog owners to help keep Longrun a beautiful place for people and dogs alike and to socialise. We will meet at the Oak Barn in Longrun Meadow.

*Attendees are advised to wear old clothes suitable for the weather conditions and wear sturdy shoes. Dogs remain the responsibility of their owner throughout the session. Discover Bats and Moths at French Weir Park

Come find out more about the bats that live around Longrun Meadow and French Weir Park. You’ll have the chance to see and hear these fascinating creatures and find out more about how they navigate and feed in the dark. The finish time will be dependent on the weather – and the bats! Please meet by the COACH building in French Weir Park at 9pm

FAB French Weir – Family Fun Day, at French Weir Park

Saturday 24 June 10:00 – 16:00

Family Fishing, Art in the park and Brilliant Butterfiles – Free ‘FAB’ fun in the Park.

Try your hand at Fishing from 10am till 1pm.Get creative with a professional Artist  from 10am till 4pm. Explore the world of Butterflies from 1pm till 4pm.  Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Please meet at Meet by the COACH building in French Weir Park at 9pm

Wild Words at Willow Cathedral in Longrun Meadow, Taunton

Sunday 25 June from 11:30

Let your creative juices flow, have a go at wild poetry and storytelling.

The poetry session will run from 11:30 till 1pm and

Story telling will be for 2:30 – 4pm.

Why not bring along a picnic and enjoy lunch in the great outdoors!
