e hall volunteers to get behind a campaign to form an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on village halls. The idea has sprung from an initiative by BBC Radio 4’s PM programme to set up an APPG on a subject suggested by its listeners. Reporter Becky Milligan met with Sir Peter Bottomley MP, a champion of APPGs, to discuss potential topics. The tentative list was whittled down to two – village halls or grammar and punctuation. Now, Dorset Community Action (DCA) is calling on volunteers, hall users and community groups to lobby their MPs to support an APPG on village halls, which was suggested by the chairman of a small village hall committee. Record numbers make this year’s Home Farm Fest the best yet
Record numbers of festival goers attended this year’s Home Farm Fest music festival, making it the biggest and most successful in the event’s eight year history. The exceptional weather saw twice as many people attend as last year, with almost three times as much money raised. Around 1,400 people attended the sun-drenched festival in Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June, which was completely sold out on the Saturday. Full Story: Read More
South Somerset District Council investigates electricity switching for households
Officers at the council have investigated the energy switching auctions arranged by some other local authorities. Some councils have asked their council tax payers for expressions of interest in switching energy suppliers with a view to signing up significant enough numbers to make it worthwhile arranging an auction amongst electricity supply companies for the custom of those households signed up for the scheme.
