Friends of The Heart of Wessex Line to sow wild seeds at lines stations

Wild Seed Planting 1 - 30 04 15Friends of The Heart of Wessex Railway Line spent Thursday (30 April) afternoon learning how to sow wild seeds in an attempt to help tidy up the look of the lines railway stations. Volunteers from the various stations along the Wessex railway line assembled at Yeovil Pen Mill Station with Catherine Phillips, Rail Partnership Officer, to listen to a presentation by Steve Fox, South Somerset District Council’s (SSDC) Principal Horticultural Officer. Somerset Co-operative Food Store Raises £500 for Local Animal Sanctuary

image001Staff at Co-operative Food in Yeovil raised an amazing £500 for Ferne Animal Sanctuary in just two days by running a raffle and cake stall at their branch. Matt Charlton, Store Manager, chose to raise the money for Ferne as his family adopted a spaniel called Ruby from the Sanctuary about a year ago. The fundraiser was very well received by the Co-operative customers. Matt said: “Our fundraiser was such a success thanks to our wonderful customers in the Westfield area. Local Adoption charity opens its doors in Somerset to urge potential adopters to come forward

Family-for-children-logoSpecialist adoption agency and charity Families for Children are pleased to announce the opening of their new adoption service based in Somerset. Families for Children’s Somerset office will be opening next Tuesday 28th April in Taunton. The charity has been working across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset for over 20 years and have now expanded their services into Somerset for the first time. It is hoped that by having an office based locally in Taunton they will be able to provide support for new adopters from the area at a very local level. Full story: Read more
