Master your bushcraft skills in Chard this Easter half term

Have you got bushcraft survival skills? Can you make fire to toast marshmallows or build a den? Join our countryside rangers at Chard Reservoir on Friday 12 April to learn some new bushcraft skills for free and enjoy the wonders of the site.

Our bushcraft skills session sees the whole family being able to try their hand at fire lighting. If you can successfully master this skill, you will be able to enjoy a toasted marshmallow (or two) over your fire.

If crafts are more your thing, learn how to make a cordage necklace or have a go at building your very own den.

Chard Reservoir is a must see during the spring. The many waterfowl are busy
making nests and the woodland is full of beautiful wildflowers.

You will find our rangers and volunteers at the Local Nature Reserve, near the woodland play zone, from 12 noon until 3pm.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon from the Chard Volunteer Group stand. There will be an opportunity to give a small donation to the group for the activities, with all proceeds going towards their future events and projects at the nature reserve.

Chard Reservoir is a must see during the spring. The many waterfowl are busy making nests and the woodland is full of beautiful wildflowers. The woodland play zone, created in 2017 by the ranger and volunteer group, is easily accessed across the field from Oaklands Avenue Car Park.

Rachael Whaites, Countryside Manager, said: “Our bushcraft skills sessions have always been popular and we are pleased to be able to offer another master-class at Chard Reservoir.

“We are starting to head into a period of better weather so are expecting to see many more people visit the site over the coming months – there is plenty to see, do and explore at Chard Reservoir this spring and summer.”

Don’t forget to visit the site later in the year for some pond dipping and bug hunting.
